Listening and reading are completed first, followed by writing and then speaking.
The listening and reading sections are multiple-choice and each section becomes progressively more difficult.
The writing section consists of two tasks – task 1 is a report and task 2 is an essay.
The speaking section is a face-to-face interview with a trained IELTS examiner.
IELTS results are reported on a 9-band scale, with each band corresponding to a certain level of English proficiency.
Band 9 is the highest level, while band 1 is the lowest.
Results are released 13 days after the test date for computer-delivered IELTS and 16 days after the test date for paper-based IELTS.
